Computer Science II: Branding a Business

Starting last year Mrs. Samantha Young, our HS Technology Instructor, started a project that required students to "brand" a business from the ground up. She created a post on her personal Facebook page this year asking any new or starter businesses would be interested in putting their business name in for the "Branding a Business" project that Computer Science II students would design. Mike Hembree contacted her about a new

business he was coming up with, basically he was starting a custom kitchen cabinet business.

Students were asked to build a brand for this business from the ground up: Name of business, color palette, font styles, 4 logos (wordmark, monogram, pictogram, and combination logo), and a branding board that puts all the previous items together on one page. The presentation was then presented to Mike, his sales staff, and general manager, and they decided on a winner.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ben Hobbs from the 6th-hour Computer Science II class he was chosen as the top presentation with his designs and branding board. His logos will be used for letterheads, business cards, t-shirts, and hats.

Mike Hembree had this to say about the presentations he received, โ€œI want to thank your class for brainstorming and helping me produce a name, logo, and colors. I think you have some very talented young men and women in your class. We have narrowed it down to one presentation and really like the name, colors, and logo.โ€ Mike will be donating $500 to Mrs. Youngโ€™s Computer Science II classes and throwing them a pizza party.

What a great real-world experience for our students and a big THANK YOU to Mike Hembree for participating!
