Middle School teacher of the year Rodney McKinney

🏆👨‍🏫Congratulations to the Wyandotte Middle School Teacher of the Year!👨‍🏫🏆

The Wyandotte Middle School Teacher of the Year is Mr. Rodney McKinney.  “Coach Mac” comes to us from the Enid area and we have been the first education job he has had.  There are a few things that set him apart:

  1. You won’t find anyone that hypes up kids more than he does.

  2. You won’t find anyone that demands that every student finds their passion more than him.

  3. You won’t find anyone more proud to be a Bear than Rodney McKinney.

Coach Mac teaches 6th grade Geography and has found his niche.  He connects with kids, is passionate about being a great educator, and there’s pretty much never a discipline issue that comes out of his classroom. In addition to his role as an educator, he serves as an assistant football coach, assistant baseball coach, and is the assistant powerlifting coach. Here’s a few of the things parents and peers had to say about him:

  • He has a passion for the subject and patience with a wild group of kiddos.

  • Coach Mac is one of the biggest Bear supporters I have had the pleasure to work with. He talks up not just the athletes he is currently coaching, but makes an effort to express his support of band, choir, and art. This all-encompassing attitude makes him a favorite of all students.

  • Coach Mac uses writing, media, and many other forms of assessment to ensure that he is not "just teaching geography" when he is giving his lessons.

  • Mac is willing to jump in and help whenever and wherever he is needed. He supports our students in any way he can. He incorporates new and inventive methods into his class to ensure he does not become stagnant in his teaching.

  • Coach Mac is a dedicated teacher whose content reaches from the classroom to life.  You only have to walk in to his classroom and see that he has created an environment that makes kids want to be there.  He does a great job with content and makes it come alive.  He doesn't stop there though.  He's constantly teaching them to "never be ashamed to be passionate about something . . . to love something."  He teaches them to "Stand On Business."  His passion for this job is contagious and students who are at an age where they are trying with all their might to figure out who they are, need to be around someone who is going to fan their talents into a flame.

  • Coach Mac is always prepared, always ready to teach the content, and has the universal respect of his students.  There are never discipline problems coming out of his room.  He is great at classroom management and develops fruitful, professional, student relationships.

  • He is an extremely busy man.  He helps lead the middle school football team, the power-lifting team, and the middle school baseball team.  He is constantly spending his time outside of school, doing school things.  If you happen to follow him on Facebook, it doesn't take you long to figure out also that he is more proud than anyone else to be a Wyandotte Bear.

  • Coach Mac is energetic and excited to be here daily! He pours himself into his students and athletes. He has an ability to form relationships with students and adults. That is a gift that is not learned.

  • His enthusiasm! He is always ready for class and always has his classroom in order. He knows the curriculum and teaches with excitement! Coach Mac is a team player and is always willing to lend a hand when needed.

  • Strengths: Enthusiasm, knowledge of curriculum, delivery of lessons, team player, collaborator, self-reflection.

  • Coach Mac is always looking and asking if there is something that he needs to be doing or could be doing differently.

Help us congratulate our Wyandotte Middle School Teacher of the Year, Rodney “Coach Mac” McKinney.
