We would like to congratulate our 2025/2026 Wyandotte High School Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Drenna Robertson. Mrs. Robertson has been serving in this district for 19 years, first as the high school secretary and for the last 8 years as a classroom teacher. She teaches Computers I, Business I, Business II, Business III, and Internship and co-teaches the Communication Hub class with Samantha Young that runs everything from the school’s Facebook page, updates all calendars, and helps with communication inside the school as well. As a pair, they are unstoppable. Here are a few of the things that staff members and students had to say about Mrs. Robertson when nominating her for this award:
⭐️Mrs. Robertson is always willing to help staff and students with anything and everything.
⭐️When thinking about who is truly here to make this school a better place it’s her. Also, on top of that she is funny.
⭐️Mrs. Robertson has helped my daughters in so many ways. I will never truly be able to say thank you enough.
⭐️When I think about Robertson's strengths I think about her ability to be THAT person for so many while keeping a smile on her face.
⭐️She teaches such a great life changing class. Her business class teaches lifelong learning lessons as well as responsibility.
⭐️She holds her students accountable and does not settle for anything less than their very best work.
⭐️She genuinely cares about all of her students and wants them all to succeed.
⭐️I have been blown away by the assignments and projects that the business class does.
⭐️Drenna's knowledge, her compassion for the students, and her dedication to help build true leaders are traits of excellence that I have witnessed.
⭐️Drenna always thinks outside of the box with her students. They look at the "real world" and apply what they have learned. She emphasizes creativity, and she thinks of the student as a whole when she teaches. If I could describe the "No Student Left Behind Act" in a teacher, it would be her.
⭐️I personally feel her enthusiasm for her curriculum, her students, and her profession is second to none. She is always looking for new ways to present material and new ideas for the curriculum. She relates her teaching to the real world, and I feel that prepares the students for real-world situations when they graduate.
⭐️One of her strengths is forming genuine relationships with the students. She maintains a structure in her classrooms while also gaining the respect of her students. She gives back to the Wyandotte Community, and teaches her students ways to do the same.
⭐️Teachers can be placed into a few categories: those who show up and do the bare minimum and go home, those who show up and do a great job and go home, and those who do everything you could ask and keep asking themselves how they can make the district and their students better. Drenna is the latter.
⭐️She does her job well and there's no question about that. Her greatest contribution is what she does that no one sees. She and Sam do an excellent job of leading the Communication Hub. A nomination for one in that area is essentially a nomination for both. I nominate Drenna because of what she does to lead our culture in that area that is behind the scenes. She and Sam mold those students to celebrate every accomplishment, lift up every organization, and make sure parents that might want to try to have a reason to not like the decisions the school makes have to still respect the fact that we celebrate their kids and the things their kids are interested in. This is transformational culture leadership.
⭐️She makes connections with every student but holds a strong line and holds them accountable even when they really don't want it. She advocates for every student regardless of who they are. They are more likely to want to be back in her class year after year because students know when they are loved and cared for.
⭐️She leads us as a district to do the right thing even when it's difficult and when it makes you grit your teeth to do the right thing because long term vision means earning respect even when it's difficult. She continues to grow as a teacher and as a culture leader.
⭐️She never fails to make me laugh in class and is always willing to help anyone.
⭐️I am nominating Mrs. Robertson for Teacher of the Year because she is always there when you need her, listens with care, and truly supports every student. She makes learning exciting, encourages us to do our best, and creates a classroom where everyone feels valued. Her kindness, patience, and dedication make her an amazing teacher who truly deserves Teacher of the Year.
⭐️Drenna is one of my favorite teachers. She makes everyone of her students feel included and also is so funny and is always keeping us entertained. She truly is the definition of a teacher. She is always helping, also pushing us to do our work and her class is always so fun!
⭐️ She is awesome and we relate a lot so that must mean we're best friends happy face emoji
⭐️She is funny and relates to everyone in our class even though it’s a hard class
Help us celebrate our 2025/2026 Wyandotte High School Teacher of the Year: Drenna Robertson!
