We would like to say congratulations to our Wyandotte High School Head Coach of the Year for the 2025/2026 school year: Aaron Posey. Coach Posey served diligently as an assistant under Eddie Jones for the last few years and upon retirement, took over right where Coach Jones left off. He has an ability to connect with student athletes, inspire them, and treat each student in their own unique way to get the most out of them. Last year’s run fell one win short of making it into the state tournament in 2A. The odds of repeating that success decreased with a move to 3A this year with significantly more difficult competition. This team won every game against our local Lucky 7 Conference including a win over a very talented Fairland team that secured them a Conference Championship. They then went to Adair to win a District Championship and then a Regional Championship over the #6 team in the state, Rejoice Christian. They traveled to Verdigris to play against the #4 team in the state, Kellyville in the Area Tournament Championship game and won that one as well. That meant for the first time in nearly 70 years, the Wyandotte Bears were headed to the state tournament. To say he pulled every last ounce of effort out of those boys is an understatement. Read some of the things fellow staff members, parents, and players had to say about Coach Posey:
🏆This is an easy choice with the success he has and more importantly, the email about how our kids acted in the stands during a game they were watching. That’s a reflection on our kids and our coaches.
🏆Aaron Posey. What a guy. This year has been nothing short of amazing for Mr Coach Posey and his team. He has a way with his words and actions. He has faced adversity head on and encouraged his players to do the same. He has done this with grace, dignity and a smile. Aaron is a class act. There were multiple times where I myself wanted to scream truths from the rooftop and then asked myself, what would Mr Coach Posey do? He's a hold your head up, do your best, be proud of who you are kind of coach. He deserves this honor.
🏆Aaron has consistently displayed vision, both as an assistant last year and as a head coach this year. He was one of the only ones that could see what needed to happen, block out the noise, and push this team to their greatest height in almost 70 years. When I say block out the noise, it's almost hard to understand the amount of criticism these coaches have endured for two years in the midst of the greatest run our basketball program has ever had. He has taught them two words: Trust and Discipline. Trust the process and trust the guys around you and have enough personal discipline to make the decisions on and off the court that make the team better. You can look at the finished product this year and see that they internalized that message on and off the court. All of these young men are better people, with our without the success on the court.
🏆State Qualifiers....do I need to say more!? Okay, I will. Aaron is one of the most organized coaches I have worked with. He's calm and professional at all times. He communicates with his staff, players, and parents in plenty of time and in a professional manner during appropriate times of day. He's amazing and I am proud to work with him and know him.
🏆"Great Coach, great leader, and a great person. How do you top that?
Advancing to State is a tremendous accomplishment especially with our growth to the 3A level. I acknowledge that we have a talented group of young men but it still takes a firm hand on the wheel to guide a group of young people through the many trials and tribulations of a basketball season.
I think it is hard to manage the expectations that often come with a talented group of athletes and I think Coach Posey has been doing a great job with this. Even the disruptions caused by athletes not coming out or transferring to another school could have caused some chaos but Aaron just worked hard with what he had and it has paid off with a great season and a team that is very much a team and that plays well together.
Finally, I just have to say that maybe even more important than the wins and the losses the question becomes, ""Is this the type of person I want working with my son or grandson?""
There is zero doubt in my mind that Coach Posey is that person and therefore I have to nominate him for the Wyandotte Schools ""Coach of the Year.""
🏆Coach Posey has stepped into his head coach role with ease after Coach Jones retired. He has made huge strides with building relationships as well and continuing a winning legacy in boys basketball.
🏆Stepping into the roll of head coach after another loved head coach steps down can be a hard position to step into. Aaron has taken on the challenge and has done it well! He manages his practices diligently, cares about every single player, and also helps his assistance grow as coaches as well. Not to mention the success of the team, at the time of the nomination he is coaching the boys basketball team in the regional championship game. Wyandotte has many great coaches and several are deserving of this award. Aaron is just as deserving as anyone !
🏆Has been a great coach/assistant coach throughout my High school career, and has taught me many things that I will always remember
🏆Keeps a cool head. Doesn't yell angrily at his players. Teaches plays well.
🏆This guy is one of a kind!!! He’s been nothing but amazing with my son over the years! He’s giving him the best senior year of basketball he could have hoped for! Thank you!
🏆"I don't think anything else needs to be said about this year's basketball squad. The Bears won the Lucky 7 conference Championship for time in what feels like almost a decade. And as much as we have our players to thank, Coach Posey deserves just as much praise for believing in this very talented Roster.
He helped the bears respond well after each win and each loss, and now they are prepped for a big year in this season's OSSAA Tournament. The bears are ready to win championships, and coaches like this bring that culture."
🏆This is an easy choice with the success he has and more importantly, the email about how our kids acted in the stands during a game they were watching. That’s a reflection on our kids and our coaches.
Help us say congratulations to Coach Aaron Posey as the 2025/2026 Head Coach of the Year!
