We would like to congratulate our Wyandotte High School Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2025/2026 school year: Tammy Holcomb. Tammy came to us from Nevada, Missouri where she had already accomplished a lot in a very successful career there. She won a state championship in softball and was a head coach for both softball and basketball in her time there. She came here and has served as an assistant in both of those same sports and has proven herself to be a valuable asset in everything she does. She’s a great teacher and a great coach. Read some of the things that those who nominated her had to say:
🏆She is constantly helping everyone and always brings joy to the team not only on the court but off the court!
🏆She helped me get better at basketball, showing me how to do everything I needed help with!
🏆This lady is one of the sweetest! She’s been the best to my girls, on and off the court/field! She’s has so much patience, my one daughter is not the easiest to deal with, and she is amazing with her!
🏆"What Tammy Holcomb has brought to Wyandotte is simply amazing. She is a head coach’s dream. There is no better feeling than showing up knowing that if you can’t be there, everything is completely under control. As a coach, it’s never easy to turn over responsibility to the group that represents your program’s future—but she has done exactly that, and she has done it exceptionally well. Wyandotte is truly lucky to have someone like Coach Holcomb. It has been an honor not only to have her on my staff, but also to learn from her along the way.”
🏆Coach Holcomb has brought a great attitude and love for the game with her this year. She has jumped right in and took on roles that may not have been meant for her. She is a positive role model as well as a hard working, good example of how coaching should be.
🏆Tammy is always aware of what is going on around her. She has stood in the gap between head coaches and angry parents and always does so with a calm presence. She is a calming source on the basketball course as well and I love to watch her with our athletes.
🏆"I don't actually have a child or anything in the programs Coach Holcomb has been a part of. This is more from the outside looking in. As I watch the way she conducts herself as an assistant in softball and basketball I see a few things:
1. Trust: I see that she trusts those she's coaching under, even though she's had a great career of her own in the position of head coach that she could do as many would have done and second guessed every decision. That's not her.
2. Loyalty: I don't ever hear her talking anything but supportive of the head coaches she coaches under. The difference between a head coach and an assistant coach is the difference between suggestion and decision. She knows that and walks with humility and understands the role.
3. Legitimacy: the girls she coaches know they can go to her and know they are receiving good advice, good coaching and you can see the connection, whether you have a child in the program or not.
She is one heck of a good coach, assistant or not.”
🏆Tammy worked with my daughter on and off the field and court. They just clicked. Tammy's life experiences with her own daughters have been very similar to some of Addie's, Tammy took these and helped her see the positives and the room for growth. Tammy helped her see how important it is to guard her heart on and off the field and court. I will forever be thankful for the time, energy and love she showed to my daughter.
Help us say thank you for a hard working assistant coach: Tammy Holcomb!
