This month, we celebrate Liz, her progress, her abilities, and all the amazing things that make her uniquely HER! 💖
🎵 Liz loves music with lots of bass, bright lights, and being surrounded by people! She adores her dad and brother, and loves her mom, too. Her love for her family is so special, and watching her grow and learn is something worth celebrating every day. 🥰✨
Look at all the wonderful things Liz has been learning! 🌟🙌
🚪 She has learned to wait for doors to be opened for her.
🚗 She has learned to adjust herself in her seat after getting into a vehicle — such an incredibly helpful skill!
🍽️ Spending time at school during mealtimes has helped her learn to eat with others, not just Mom or Dad.
🚶♀️ She has been walking longer distances and building her stamina.
🪑 She is learning to sit at the table for longer periods and work more with her amazing paras.
Every new skill is a step toward greater independence. Every milestone matters, every achievement deserves recognition, and every bit of progress is worth celebrating! 💕👏
💜 But this month is about so much more than milestones. It's about awareness, acceptance, inclusion, and recognizing the incredible potential within every person living with Rett syndrome.
🧠 They are smart. 📚 They learn. 💭 They think. 🌟 They achieve.
Rett syndrome does not define their potential.
💜 Same value. Same worth. Same dreams. 💜
Rett syndrome is a genetic condition that primarily affects girls, though boys can also be affected. It is most commonly caused by changes in the MECP2 gene, which plays an important role in brain development. It is NOT contagious — it is a genetic condition, not something that spreads from person to person.
🎨 People with Rett syndrome can have incredible talents, creativity, and unique perspectives on the world. Intelligence comes in many forms, and communication and abilities may look different for each individual. We must remember that there is so much more to a person than what we can see on the outside.
🏫 They deserve inclusion at school, at home, in their communities, and throughout society. They deserve opportunities to learn, grow, connect, experience joy, and chase their dreams. They deserve to be seen, heard, valued, and included.
