We are excited to announce that the 2021/2022 Wyandotte Elementary School Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Karri Pogue. Mrs. Pogue has been employed at Wyandotte for the last 23 years beginning with her first year in 1999. She has been an asset to this district every year and daily proves her value to her peers, her students, and the parents of Wyandotte Public School children. Generations of students have been blessed to have her as a teacher and we as a district are excited to bestow an honor long overdue.
Mrs. Pogue’s building principal, Ms. Roxanne McCain says, “Mrs. Pogue is respected, reliable and a leader of her grade level. She works diligently to get students where they need to be according to their individual learning levels. She holds herself and her students to high expectations. Mrs. Pogue is a master at classroom management while making her students feel safe and welcomed.”
The unnamed person who nominated her said that she was nominated because she “diligently works to get students where they need to be according to their individual learning levels. She is respected, reliable, and a leader of her grade level. She prepares lesson plans for her grade level that reflect standards required.”
Among her greatest contributions according to the person who made the nomination is that “She does not demand attention and knows her curriculum and standards. She holds her students to high expectations. She is a problem solver, which is greatly needed in education these days. She is dependable and always here to teach her class.”
When asked what personal feelings and opinions there were about her, the response was “I respect Karri greatly because she puts the students' needs first. She is great at classroom management while making her students feel safe and welcome in her classroom. She is always willing to help.
The nominator also talked about the greatest improvements and growth this year and said, “She knows her students learning levels and abilities, respected, dependable, and is a great teacher. She started with students at very low levels due to the pandemic and has worked hard to move them closer to where they need to be. She will try different learning methods in order to reach each child.”
